Armstrong has a presence in China for more than 10
years. In 1991, the company came to China to establish a joint venture
in textile supplies, later selling the equity of the joint venture
to its partner in 1994. Then, in 1995, Armstrong established two
facilities and one sales & marketing office in Shanghai.
The first
of these facilities produces ceilings and is a joint venture between
Armstrong and Shanghai Building Materials General Corp., in which
Armstrong owns 80% of the facility and Shanghai Building Materials
General owns 20%. The other facility is owned by Worthington Armstrong
Venture, a partnership between Armstrong and Worthington Industries.
This operation, known as WAVE, manufactures ceiling suspension systems
and metal ceiling. The sales & marketing office - Armstrong
World Industries (China) Ltd., is wholly owned by Armstrong Corporate
in Lancaster.
In developing
its business in China, Armstrong has made a multimillion-dollar
total capital investment, including plant, equipment and land. The
business scope of Armstrong World Industries (China) Ltd. has been
liaison, coordination activities in the sourcing of merchandise
and technical support services on trading of Building materials
in China.
In addition,
the company currently employs approximately 400 people in China.
Armstrong has been honored to work with the people of China in developing
its business and adding to the Chinese business infrastructure,
and plans to continue its commitment to China well into the future.
